Our confession of faith, shared with the Evangelical Mennonite Mission Conference — affirming our Anabaptist and evangelical roots.
Spanish Lookout EMMC is part of the Evangelical Mennonite Mission Conference (EMMC). The following confession of faith represents our shared doctrinal commitments — our understanding of God, Scripture, the church, and the Christian life.
We believe in the one holy and loving God, filled with glory, power, and wisdom, who lives in eternal Trinity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God, who created and sustains the physical and spiritual universe, desires a relationship with people.
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, given for instruction in salvation and the Christian life. Scripture is accepted as reliable and trustworthy, and is interpreted in harmony with Jesus Christ, who is its centre and fulfilment.
We believe that the church is built on the confession that Jesus Christ is Lord. We affirm his incarnation, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and ascension. We look forward to his return and reign, the final resurrection, the judgment of the unrighteous, and the eternal reward of the righteous.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who gives new life to all who have placed their faith in Christ. The Spirit, who indwells believers, continues to comfort, empower, gift, guide, and unite them to fulfil the mission of the church.
We believe that God offers salvation from sin and new life through Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. Salvation is received when people repent and accept Christ as Saviour and Lord. Children of God can be confident that their heavenly Father will bring them safely to their eternal home — a confidence rooted in the faithful promises of God, our acceptance by Christ, and the guarantee of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the church is God's global people, born at Pentecost through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The church is the visible representation of Jesus through its gatherings and ministries in the world — the dwelling of the Holy Spirit, the people empowered and gifted for witness.
We believe in believers' baptism. Those who have confessed their faith in Jesus Christ are baptised and enter into a membership covenant with a local congregation. This practice reflects our Anabaptist heritage and our commitment to a church of committed disciples.
We believe that the mission of the church is to make disciples in all the world by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through evangelism and compassionate ministry. We are called to go — into our community, into Low German communities, and to the ends of the earth.
We believe that church leaders are chosen based on godly character and spiritual gifts. Congregations call — and may financially support — pastors and ministry leaders who serve in their midst.
